Flashover: Training at the “Phoenix” Simulator

On March 12–13, 2026, the Russian-Serbian Humanitarian Center hosted a two-day training course “Combustion Theory, Fire Development, and Fire Phenomena (flashover, rollover)” for 10 members of the Emergency Management Sector of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia.

On the first day, participants explored the theory of combustion, smoke movement in enclosed spaces, and techniques for “reading” smoke conditions. They also reviewed the proper procedures for donning personal protective equipment before entering the “Phoenix” training simulator.

The second day was dedicated to hands-on training. Firefighters practiced on the “Iron House” simulator, where they observed the movement of combustion products and temperature changes, and continued training on the “Phoenix” live-fire simulator.

During the exercises, instructors demonstrated the stages of fire development—from ignition to flashover—using a thermal imaging camera. Participants also observed key fire phenomena, including the neutral plane lowering, rollover, smoke gas explosions, and hydraulic ventilation.
